Explore the principles of evidence-based decision-making to make and argue for better decisions.

Our new Profession Map defines the knowledge, behaviours and values which should underpin today’s people profession. To fulfil our purpose of championing better work and working lives, through the new Profession Map we encourage the people profession to be evidence-based, as well as principles-led and outcomes-driven, taking an evidence-based approach in order to contribute to better decision making in any situation. While professional opinion is important and must be considered, it holds more weight when supported by robust evidence from several and varied sources.

Please note that this development programme requires completing two pre-course online modules. The modules must be completed in the participants’ own time.

What's involved?

The Evidence Based HR programme involves

  • Module 1: an introductory webinar giving an overview of the programme
  • Module 2: two consecutive days of workshop that cover Evidence Based Skills and Evidence Based Insights
  • Module 3: an in-between course session in which you can get individual support on your CAT assignment
  • Module 4: a final workshop where you’ll have the opportunity to apply your theory with a series of practical assignments including presenting your CAT
  • a Module 5: Wrap Up webinar where you’ll be coached and supported on the deployment of your action plan. 

On completion of this course, you’ll be able to

  • assess the strengths and weaknesses and costs and benefits of evidence-based decision-making
  • assess the extent to which claims (made by managers, leaders or policy-makers) are supported by evidence
  • assess the trustworthiness of evidence from scientific research
  • explain where the evidence regarding relevant HR topics is clear.
