The UK’s data protection legislation was updated in 2018 by the Data Protection Act 2018, which included activating the EU’s General Data Protection Regulations.

The scope of the new legislation is wider than previously and the penalties for getting things wrong are bigger. One year into GDPR and we know that many more people are now aware of their rights and exercise them. Whether that is Subject Access Requests from employees or scrutiny of selection processes by new staff, managing data is at the heart of many core HR activities.

The one-day Understanding Data Protection Course covers the legal principles on collecting, processing and retaining data and how they are applied to specific HR tasks such as recruitment, monitoring staff and employee records. The course also includes some of the most recent case law and guidance from the Information Commissioner’s Office to help interpret the new legislation. The programme is busy and active. Expect to be working with others, applying the law to real problems and really preparing yourself to help your organisation comply with the regulations and legislation in this area.
