Designed for middle to senior managers, this course will give you practical tools and techniques to think strategically and how to apply them to your business context.

This programme consists of three elements to give you a blended learning experience. You must attend and complete all the elements as they are designed to embed the skills and knowledge you gain at the workshop.

This blended learning programme consists of:
A one-day face-to-face workshop, covering the definitions of strategic thinking and barriers to strategic management.

Online activities that should be completed within two weeks after the workshop. Tasks include an individual research activity on the subject of strategic management, as well as the creation of a video/ podcast/ presentation on your company strategy.

An online webinararound three weeks after the workshop, which will review the programme theory covered and your progress.

Length of Programme
One day face-to-face workshop, plus online activities to be completed within two weeks after the workshop. You are also expected to attend a one-hour online webinar around three weeks after the workshop to maximise and consolidate your blended learning.

This programme is for middle to senior managers with operational background looking to explore how to better integrate their organisation’s strategy into their operational responsibilities. This will enable a strategic overview in everyday activities, thus creating better focus for improved productivity.

  • Define the concept of strategic thinking and explain how to apply it to your business context
  • Identify the barriers to a successful application of your organisational strategy
  • Explain how to influence change in approach to strategy
  • Apply practical tools and techniques to deploy strategic thinking for operational excellence.

This programme is made up of four elements:

1 day face to face workshop

  • Definitions around strategy
  • What is strategic thinking?
  • Strategic management in times of change
  • Acknowledging barriers to implementing strategic management
  • Practical solutions to overcoming barriers
  • Build your personal development plan

One week after the workshop: Individual Research Activity

Research on the subject of strategic management. Test some of your thinking against the models and ideas.  Record your research in the form of a short report, blog, or business magazine article that critically assesses factual points and outlines your opinion and point of view.


Two weeks after the workshop: Individual Reflective Activity

Make a short video / presentation / podcast / image / picture / drawing / animation to articulate your company strategy and what you will do differently with your team, customers or other relevant stakeholders as a result of this programme.


Three weeks after the workshop: one hour Webinar

Delegates come together for a one hour live webinar to review the theory they have researched and discuss progress, as well as offering support and feedback to each other.

Course Tutors

Mrs Fiona McBride

Fiona is an experienced management trainer, facilitator and coach who over many years has worked to support and develop a wide variety of staff and managers at various stages of their careers. She is also a Chartered Member of the CIPD and currently Vice-Chair of the Central London Branch committee.


With her background initially in Human Resources and after completing a Master of Science in Personnel and Development, she recognised that her true passion was in the specialist area of learning and development. That passion helps her keep her skills and knowledge current using the latest technology available e.g. social media and social collaboration.


Fiona believes that all good learning needs to be sustainable, to have an impact and be transferrable back into the workplace, and that to be effective in our roles, we should always be reflecting on our professional practice and looking for ways to grow and learn.
